The Plenum of the Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran had before it the report of political developments in Sudan in recent weeks – in particular the protests of the Sudanese people and toilers in opposition to the destructive economic policies of the ruling dictatorial regime, the violent onslaught on the Sudanese Communist Party by the security forces and the arrest of leaders and cadres of the fraternal SCP. The meeting of the Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran called for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners and, in particular, the Political Secretary of the Sudanese Communist Party, Comrade Muhamed Mukhtar al-Khatib, and other members of the Politburo and the Central Committee of the party – as well as all those who, in recent days, have been arrested in the wave of protests against living and economic hardship.
The Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran – while condemning the actions of the Sudanese theocratic dictatorial regime in attacking the SCP, the arrest of the leadership of the fraternal party as well as the creation of certain obstacles and infringements in relation to the conditions in which they are held – is particularly concerned about the transfer of some leaders of the fraternal party to the prisons of the Darfur region in Western Sudan. These prisons, located in Zalinagh and Shala, lack the most basic health and sanitation provisions for accommodating detainees and this could pose serious threats to the health of our detained Sudanese comrades.
The meeting of the Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran proclaims its solidarity with the protest movement of the Sudanese people against the economic austerity policies imposed by the dictatorial regime of Omar Al-Bashir. In the struggle of the Sudanese working class and toilers against the backward and ruling Islamist government, The Tudeh Party of Iran stands shoulder to shoulder with the working-class of Sudan and its party; the Sudanese Communist Party.
We support the legitimate demands of the Sudanese Communist Party in defending peace, respect for human rights, democracy and social justice, as well as the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners.
We call on the responsible authorities of the regime in Sudan to respect the legitimate rights of the detainees, which are covered under international conventions and should be observed in all countries, and to facilitate and guarantee their full access to lawyers and their legal advisers.
The Tudeh Party of Iran calls upon the Sudanese Government to comply with its obligations under international laws and conventions – to respect freedom of assembly, freedom of expression, the right to organise and peaceful protest, i.e. the rights internationally protected across all countries.
The plenary of the CC of the Tudeh Party of Iran once again emphasised its solidarity with the Sudanese Communist Party and all those who are fighting for progressive and radical change in Sudan.
– Victory to the struggle of Sudanese people for peace, democracy and social justice!
– Long live international solidarity!
