Communique of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran on the successful holding of the Broad Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran in February 2020
The Broad Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the Tudeh Party of Iran was held in February 2020, with the participation of all members of the Central Committee and a number of [additional] party cadres and officers. The Broad Plenary Meeting first reviewed and discussed the report of the political bureau about the most important developments in Iran and the world since the previous meeting of the C.C., and ratified the report with some amendments and supplementary proposals.
The Broad Plenary Meeting, in its discussions on the current critical situation of the country and regarding the urgency and necessity of promoting efforts for the further cooperation between Iran’s progressive and freedom-loving forces in the struggle against the ruling tyranny, elected a committee to further examine the challenges and find new practical solutions to facilitate this cooperation.
Another important topic discussed in the Broad Plenary Meeting was the necessity of organising, preparing for and holding the 7th Congress of the Tudeh Party of Iran. The meeting supported and adopted the proposal of holding the 7th Congress of the Party, and elected a commission for organising and holding the Congress and another commission to draft the Congress documents. The Broad Plenary Meeting drew upon and ratified the necessary guidelines on this matter.
Also, on the eve of the centennial anniversary of the Communist Party of Iran – established in June 1920 – the Broad Plenary Meeting adopted a statement and directed the Party’s leadership to plan and implement appropriate publicity and promotional activities marking this occasion. [The Communist Party of Iran was proscribed and made illegal under the constitution in the 1930s – the organisation was banned and its entire leadership was arrested and imprisoned. In September 1941, 3 months after the attack by Hitler’s Germany on the Soviet Union, those surviving leaders and members of the Communist Party of Iran were released from prison. The Iranian monarch, Reza Shah, was deposed as he was pro-German. The leaders of the Communist Party of Iran then immediately established a new party under the name of ‘Tudeh’ – ‘Masses’ – on 2 October 1941 coinciding with the Iranian festival of Mehregan. The 1st Congress of the Tudeh Party of Iran declared the new organisation to be the legitimate successor to the Communist Party of Iran… A historic journey that continues to this day!]
The final session of the Broad Plenary Meeting heard and evaluated the activities of various bureaus of the C.C. of the Party – focusing on the areas of publications, labour, women, international relations, financial, organisation, as well as promotional and publicity activities on social media. The Broad Plenary Meeting expressed its satisfaction with the progress that has been achieved through the efforts of all comrades and party supporters, and applauded their tireless actions and dedication. The meeting also made certain decisions to improve and expand upon the future activities of the Party.
