Statement of the Tudeh Party of Iran: The Necessity of Opposing the Dangerous Adventures of Imperialism and Regional Reaction in the Final Days of the Trump Administration
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Research and Innovation Organisation of the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics, was killed in a terrorist attack in the Absard vicinity of Damavand on Friday, November 27, according to Iranian and international media. Fakhrizadeh, who was involved in research and development activities in the nuclear industry of the Islamic Republic of Iran, had been [a name] cited for several years in relation to the Iranian nuclear issue. The Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, tweeted: “Terrorists murdered an eminent Iranian scientist today. This cowardice – with serious indications of Israeli involvement – shows the desperate warmongering of its perpetrators.” Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the Islamist regime’s armed forces, stressed, “There will be a harsh revenge for the perpetrators of this assassination” while Abolfazl Amouei, spokesman for the National Security Commission of the Parliament, took a similar stance with the “Revenge is Our Right” hashtag. Fada Hossein Maleki, another member of the National Security Commission, called the assassination of [Fakhrizadeh] a stain on the forehead of Mossad and CIA services, and further stated, “The Israelis are seeking a full-scale war in the region with these despicable moves in the final days of Trump.”
This is not the first time in recent years that intelligence agencies of other countries, including Israel, have been able to openly carry out such a large-scale operation against persons connected with the Iranian regime such as Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in Tehran, and this is undoubtedly a sign of the deep and widespread infiltration of the intelligence agencies of the theocratic regime in Iran – and its vulnerability due to widespread corruption across the state apparatuses.
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of news indicating the efforts of the [outgoing] Trump administration – and its reactionary and adventurous allies in the region, including Israel’s racist government and Saudi Arabia’s reactionary regime – aimed at forcing Iran to react uncalculatedly and to provoke it into a reaction that would escalate tensions and initiate dangerous “limited” military conflicts against our country.
Two weeks ago, Donald Trump held a meeting with his top advisers at the White House to explore the possibility of bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities, and B-52 aircrafts were deployed to the Persian Gulf region on 17 November 2020 under the guise of “deterring aggression and reassuring US partners and allies” and “warning the forces that threaten the interests of U.S. allies in the region”, while [on 22 November 2020] Netanyahu and Mossad’s chief made a secret unprecedented visit to the city of Neom in Saudi Arabia to hold a trilateral meeting with Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, and [outgoing U.S. Secretary of State] Mike Pompeo on aspects and ways of confronting the Islamic Republic of Iran… All of which can be seen as clear examples of the Trump administration’s efforts and its reactionary and adventurous allies in the region.
The Tudeh Party of Iran condemns the terrorist attack and murder of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, that was organised with the aim of setting off a chain of vengeful confrontations between warmongers, and the Party calls for efforts to maintain peace in the Middle East in the interests of the oppressed people of Iran and throughout the region.
It comes as no surprise to the Tudeh Party of Iran that Donald Trump continues to attempt to meddle with provocative and dangerous tricks in the final weeks of his disastrous presidency, which has caused extensive damage to peace and stability in the Middle East and wider world. Over the past four years, he has tried to nullify and eliminate any opportunity to peacefully address and resolve the disputes between Iran and the United States within the framework of the U.N. Charter and international law.
The Tudeh Party of Iran has repeatedly warned of the danger of the adventurous policies of U.S. imperialism and its allies, including the regressive Saudi regime and Israel’s racist policies, as well as the Iranian regime’s imprudent and interventionist policies in the region.
While condemning the reckless behaviour of the Trump administration and its regional allies in ignoring international law, the Tudeh Party of Iran believes that all efforts must be intensified to avoid escalating tensions leading toward a catastrophic military conflict in the region. It is also important to note that all military wars and conflicts in the Middle East benefit only the reactionary and anti-people forces of the region and the world, and take place in stark contrast with the immediate and long-term interests of our hardworking [and long-suffering] people.
The Tudeh Party of Iran is asking all progressive and peace-loving forces in Iran, the region, and around the world, to continue their efforts to mobilise public opinion to counter the threat of escalating dangerous military tensions and conflicts in the region. In the final days of the Trump administration, the reactionary and anti-people leaders of the ruling regime in Iran, the U.S. government, and reactionary regimes of Saudi Arabia and Israel, must not be allowed to once again plunge the Middle East into the abyss of a new war. The struggle for peace – to push back the warmongering forces in the Middle East, and to defend the interests of the hardworking people and the Iranian nation – is our most urgent task in the present situation.
The Tudeh Party of Iran believes that the Iranian people’s struggle for peace, democracy, democratic rights and freedoms, and social justice will be won through the elimination of the theocratic (Velayat-e faqih) regime in the country. In this regard, we believe that no foreign intervention is justified under any pretext whatsoever, and we furthermore reject and condemn any act of terrorism under any pretext or cover. Determining the course of Iran’s political future is solely the responsibility of the Iranian people and the united front of progressive and democratic forces representing them.
