Statement of the Tudeh Party of Iran Condemning Donald Trump’s Provocative and Destructive Remarks About the Palestinian People
The provocative and irresponsible remarks made by Donald Trump during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the evening of Tuesday, February 5, have sparked deep concern among progressive and freedom-loving forces around the world, the Palestinian people, and the leaders of Middle Eastern countries. The hopes that had emerged following the recent ceasefire between the Israeli government and Hamas—under the pressure of public opinion—have now turned into serious concerns about Trump’s policies in the second week of his presidency.
Popular and progressive forces, including the Palestinian People’s Party and the Fatah Organization (Palestine Liberation Organization), have strongly condemned Trump’s statements regarding the evacuation of all Gaza residents and their resettlement in Arab countries. Nationalist and progressive Palestinian forces have declared that the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem belong to the Palestinian people and that any encroachment on these territories—under any pretext—constitutes a blatant violation of international law.
The Tudeh Party of Iran condemns Trump’s provocative and deceitful statements and stands with the Palestinian people in their struggle to achieve a free and independent homeland, as defined by United Nations and Security Council resolutions. António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, emphasized on Wednesday, in a meeting with the UN committee, that all forms of ethnic cleansing in Gaza must be avoided. Referring to the Palestinian issue, he stated: “We must emphasize the two-state solution.”
According to media reports, in addition to objections from European countries, none of the Arab nations—including Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia—have considered Trump’s recent proposals as even worthy of review. In fact, they immediately and strongly opposed them. However, it is important to note that their opposition does not necessarily stem from a genuine concern for the dire conditions of the Palestinian people but rather from their pragmatic approach and fear of public backlash in their own countries.
It is evident that Trump’s provocative proposal—violating all international laws—regarding the future of Gaza and the fate of the Palestinian people reflects the reactionary and quasi-fascist approach of his administration. The Tudeh Party of Iran, alongside Palestinian nationalist and progressive forces, strongly condemns Trump’s remarks about relocating Gaza’s residents to Arab countries and placing this part of Palestinian territory under the control of U.S. imperialism. Our party has consistently emphasized that the Palestinian issue remains the central and most pressing matter in the Middle East, and its resolution must be pursued decisively, peacefully, and politically.
The policies of U.S. imperialism and its European allies have long been among the primary factors perpetuating the occupation of Palestine, the subjugation of the Palestinian people, and their brutal repression and massacre at the hands of Israel’s criminal regime. We call for the immediate and full implementation of a ceasefire, an end to the genocidal war in Gaza and the West Bank, the withdrawal of all Israeli occupation forces from Palestine, the release of all Palestinian prisoners and all remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza, and the adoption of concrete, legal, and lasting measures to recognize and establish a fully independent state of Palestine within the June 4, 1967 borders, as per United Nations resolutions.
